After Pesaro in 2024, the title of Italian Capital of Culture returns to the Marche region, this time to Ancona.
The designation, announced in the presence of Minister Alessandro Giuli at the Spadolini Hall of the Ministry of Culture in Rome, highlighted how the submitted dossier meets all the criteria required to best represent this role.
The programme, unanimously praised by the selection jury, is designed to offer both residents and visitors a wide range of events throughout the entire year. Particular emphasis was also placed on the integration between cultural institutions, local stakeholders and associations. According to the Ministry, the dossier “proposes a solid and coherent model of cultural development, capable of combining local identity with international openness, in a vision that connects cultural policies with broader processes of urban regeneration, social inclusion and participation.”
“Ancona. This Now”, the title of the winning project, draws inspiration from the words of local poet Francesco Scarabicchi and aims to create a dialogue between historical memory and contemporary life through more than eighty original projects. Among the key figures involved in the bid is Oscar-winning set designer Dante Ferretti, a native of the Marche region with strong ties to the city.
