The city of Ancona is preparing for the Easter holidays with a rich cultural programme involving the Civic Art Gallery, the Roman Amphitheatre, the National Archaeological Museum, churches in the historic centre and city museums. A calendar designed to offer residents and visitors a unique opportunity to rediscover the city through art, history and spirituality.
Civic Art Gallery “Francesco Podesti”
The Civic Art Gallery, recently reopened to great success, offers a high-level exhibition itinerary. Visitors will be able to admire Titian’s Annunciation, on loan from the Cathedral of Treviso, alongside the Gozzi Altarpiece, which has returned to Ancona after its exhibition in Cadore. Alongside the Venetian master, works by Lorenzo Lotto are also featured, thanks to a loan from the Capitoline Museums, bringing to the city Mastro Batista balestier de la Rocha Contrada. Completing the exhibition is Umberto Grati – Spin Off, a tribute to the renowned illustrator and painter from Ancona, known for his collaborations with publications such as Il Sole 24 Ore and La Settimana Enigmistica.
The programme includes themed guided tours and in-depth talks, as well as a special promotion for residents: with a single reduced ticket of €5, visitors can enjoy unlimited access until 31 December 2026. For information, call +39 071 2226625.
Roman Amphitheatre and National Archaeological Museum
From April to September, regular openings of the Roman Amphitheatre return, with guided tours recounting the history of the city from the Hellenistic period to the present day. The ticket also includes admission to the Archaeological Museum, where visitors can discover the treasures of the Piceni, Celts, Greeks and Romans, as well as the new Open Storage exhibition, a unique route featuring over 6,000 artefacts never displayed before.
Special openings are scheduled for Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, followed by the regular calendar from April to September. For information, call +39 071 202602.
Sacred Treasures: Cathedral, Santa Maria della Piazza and the Church of Gesù
Thanks to the collaboration between the Municipality and the Archdiocese, church opening hours have been extended and free guided itineraries have resumed, dedicated to MSC cruise tourists and residents alike. Every Friday, from April to October, a guide will accompany visitors in discovering the churches and symbolic sites of the historic centre, including the magnificent Rubens tapestries housed in the Diocesan Museum.
Diocesan Museum and Omero Museum
The Diocesan Museum will be open on Easter Monday with free guided tours, while the Omero Museum will follow its extended spring opening hours.
