Once a defensive castle of Ancona, Camerano was part of the network of villages charged with protecting the Conero territory together with Sirolo, Varano, Massignano, and Poggio. Today it is a little gem nestled in the greenery of Mount Conero, overlooking the Riviera, rich in history and charm.
The real wonder lies beneath your feet: the famous Caves of Camerano, a
fascinating labyrinth of chambers carved into the rock, filled with mystery,
symbols, and legends.
An underground journey through art, spirituality, and food and wine surprises.
Guided tours often include tastings of the renowned Rosso Conero,
the symbolic wine of the area.
Camerano is its undisputed homeland and celebrates it every year with the
Rosso Conero Festival, held on the first weekend of September: a lively,
popular event where the town fills with aromas, music, and visitors from across the Riviera.
Not far from the center, Bosco Mancinforte offers a corner of unspoiled nature, perfect for a walk among oaks, trails, and panoramic viewpoints.
Strolling through the village, you will often come across the name of Carlo Maratti,
a famous 17th-century painter born right here. His statue dominates the square, while in the Church
of the Immaculate Conception you can admire one of his most important early works:
“The Virgin with Child and Saints.”
The Civic Museum instead preserves documents and original engravings
that recount the life and work of this master of Baroque art.
