Accordion Museum

MUSEUM

CASTELFIDARDO

DESCRIPTION

Set in seventeenth-century town hall in Castelfidardo, the museum offers an exhibition of about 350 specimens, including instruments forerunner of the accordion, such as a rare Chinese cheng and a harmoniflute dated 1836. Museum also houses the precious "Giuseppe Panini" collection: many accordions, many of which are unique pieces, from twenty-two different countries.

Inside the museum has been reproduced a typical workshop of the last century, such as the one where it was created the first model by the artisan and inventor Paolo Soprani, born in Recanati in 1844. Tradition has it that the young man Soprani was greatly impressed by the sound of an accordion "Accordeon", played by an Austrian pilgrim visiting Loreto, and after having studied its mechanics, gave birth to a new instrument: the accordion was born so. It was an instrument with new and distinct features and that proved so successful to reach the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900.

The museum is especially popular and much visited by those who are on vacation in the Conero Riviera and can be an ideal destination during the annual International Accordion Festival, which takes place usually in September in Castelfidardo.
